Delhi Capitals (DC) are still searching for their maiden IPL title as they prepare for a fresh start in IPL 2025 under a new leader. The franchise has yet to announce its captain, but the overseas players in the squad will play a crucial role in their success.
One setback for DC is Harry Brook’s decision to pull out of the tournament to focus on international cricket. While they may look for a replacement, the available overseas players in the squad still have the potential to make a big impact with their performances.
Predicting the starting four overseas players of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025
1. Faf du Plessis
South Africa’s Faf du Plessis is one of the most successful foreigners in the history of this tournament. In 145 matches, he has scored 4571 runs, at an average of 35.99 with a strike rate of 136.37, including 37 fifties.
His leadership skills are also known to everyone, and therefore, his name is in the probables to become the new skipper for DC for the upcoming edition. DC paid INR 2 crore to get his service. In the last season, he scored 438 runs in 15 games at a strike rate of 161.62, including four fifties.
2. Jake Fraser-McGurk
This young Australian opener had a sensational IPL season last year for DC. In just nine matches, Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed 330 runs at an average of 36.67 and an incredible strike rate of 234.04, including four fifties. Recognising his explosive potential, DC retained him for INR 9 crore, expecting him to be even more dominant in the upcoming season.
Recently, Fraser-McGurk was in action for Australia in the two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He was also part of Australia's Champions Trophy squad but did not get a chance to play. Now, he will look to carry forward his aggressive batting approach and make a bigger impact in IPL 2025.
3. Tristan Stubbs
South Africa’s Tristan Stubbs is one of DC’s key retained players, and he has shown significant improvement across all three formats in recent years. In the last IPL season, he impressed with 378 runs in 14 matches at an average of 54.00 and an outstanding strike rate of 190.91, including three fifties. Recognising his impact, DC retained him for INR 10 crore.
Stubbs was part of South Africa’s squad for the recent Champions Trophy but played only one game, where he was dismissed for a duck against England in Karachi. His dynamic batting and athleticism in the field make him a valuable asset for DC, and he will be eager to make a strong impact in IPL 2025.
4. Mitchell Starc
The Aussie pacer will be crucial for DC’s success in IPL 2025. In the last edition, Mitchell Starc played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning campaign, picking up 17 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 10.61, including a four-wicket haul.
His standout performances in the knockout games proved his ability to deliver under pressure, and DC fans will be hoping for a similar impact this season. DC secured Starc’s services for INR 11.75 crore.
However, he did not feature in the recent Champions Trophy as he was recovering from an ankle injury and also opted out due to personal reasons. If he becomes fully fit, his experience and skill with the new ball and at the death will be invaluable for DC.
