IPL 2025: Predicting the starting four overseas players of LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to begin a new era under their newly appointed skipper, Rishabh Pant. The franchise made headlines by acquiring him for a record-breaking INR 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.

However, for Pant to succeed in his maiden season as LSG captain, the team's foreign stars will need to deliver impactful performances. With a strong set of overseas options available, selecting the right combination of four foreign players based on conditions will be key to maintaining balance and maximising their chances of success in the upcoming season.

Predicting the starting four overseas players of Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2025

1. Mitchell Marsh

Australia’s Mitchell Marsh is one of the top all-rounders in world cricket, and LSG secured his services for INR 3.40 crore. Marsh has the ability to bat in the top order and contribute with useful spells with the ball. Unfortunately, he missed the recent Champions Trophy campaign for Australia due to a lower back issue.

With injury concerns lingering, LSG fans will hope he recovers in time for the tournament so that he can play a crucial role throughout the season. In 42 IPL matches so far, he has scored 666 runs, at a strike rate of 127.83, including three fifties, and with the ball, has taken 37 wickets, at an economy of 8.52, including two four-wicket hauls.

2. Nicholas Pooran

West Indies wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran will be crucial for LSG’s success in the upcoming season. He is undoubtedly one of the most destructive batters in world cricket. Despite the team’s struggles last season, he scored 499 runs in 14 games at an average of 62.38 and a strike rate of 178.21, including three fifties.

When it was confirmed that LSG would not retain KL Rahul, there were rumors that Pooran could be the new captain, especially after the franchise spent INR 21 crore to retain him. However, with Rishabh Pant now set to lead the side, Pooran will still have a significant role in shaping LSG’s fortunes in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

3. Aiden Markram

This classy South African batter, Aiden Markram, is expected to play a key role at the top of the order for LSG. He also brings valuable captaincy experience, which could be helpful for Rishabh Pant in crucial situations.

In 44 IPL matches, Markram has scored 995 runs at an average of 30.15 and a strike rate of 129.73, including five fifties. However, his last two IPL seasons have been underwhelming compared to his impressive 2022 campaign. Still, LSG invested INR 2 crore in him, and this upcoming season could be the perfect stage for his redemption in the tournament.

4. David Miller

With vast experience in international cricket and various franchise leagues, including the IPL, David Miller could be LSG’s trump card in the middle order. His finishing skills have won matches for his teams multiple times throughout his career.

In 130 IPL matches, Miller has scored 2,924 runs at an average of 36.55 and a strike rate of 139.24, including 13 fifties and one century. Even in the recent Champions Trophy, he showcased his brilliance with an unbeaten 100 off 67 balls in the semi-final against New Zealand, though it came in a losing cause in Lahore.
