IPL 2025: Rajat Patidar recovering from finger injury, Jitesh Sharma could lead RCB

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar is currently nursing a finger injury, and he would require at least a week’s time to recover to make a comeback. However, with IPL 2025 getting suspended due to India and Pakistan cross-border tensions, Patidar has had enough time to recover and get back to the field.

Notably, Patidar suffered a finger injury during RCB’s match against CSK on May 3. He was advised by the medical team not to take part in any training sessions for at least 10 days before assessing the injury.

Just before the IPL got suspended, RCB was supposed to take on the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Friday, May 9. Young keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma was in line to take Patidar’s role of captaincy.

"I was very grateful for the opportunity given to me," Jitesh said on RCB Bold Diaries. "They were giving me an opportunity to captain RCB and it's a very big thing for me and my family. I was thinking of what the right combination would be because both Devdutt [Padikkal] and Rajat were not available, and it was a big responsibility to replace them.

"And as per the position we were on the points table, we would have won this game. All of this was going on in my head and all the meetings with coaches and players in those two-three days, batting order, discussions with bowlers. I had good fun,” he added.

On Saturday, May 10, Rajat Patidar and his teammates returned to Bengaluru from Lucknow. However, he is keen to take part in the remainder of the IPL 2025 season if it gets resumed in a week’s time.

RCB is currently occupying the second rank in the standings with eight wins and three losses, picking up 16 points. With three games left before playoffs, they would be aiming for a top two finish.
