Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar has been fined INR 12 Lakhs for maintaining a slow-over rate in the 20th match of the IPL 2025 season against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Notably, RCB bagged a thrilling 12-run win in the close, high-scoring encounter against Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya gave his best, scoring 42 runs off 15 balls. However, that wasn’t enough for the side to go past the winning line.
With this offence being his first of the season, the IPL committee had fined the RCB captain with an INR 12 Lakh fine. Interestingly, this season, captains will not be banned due to repeated slow-over rate offences, as decided by the BCCI ahead of the start of the season.
“Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the statement from the IPL committee read.
It’s important to note that Rajat Patidar isn’t the first captain to be slapped with a fine in the IPL 2025 season. Earlier, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant turned out to be the first three captains to receive the hefty fines.
Batting first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a dominating total of 221/5 in 20 overs on a belter of a wicket. Virat Kohli was the star of the show with 67 runs, while Rajat Patidar smacked 64 runs, with Jitesh Sharma playing an unbeaten 40-run cameo.
In the chase, MI could score 209/9 in 20 overs, losing the game by 12 runs. Alongside Hardik Pandya's 42-run knock, Tilak Varma also played exceptionally well with 56 runs in 29 balls.
