Riyan Parag fined INR 12 Lakh after victory against CSK

Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag has hogged the spotlight after being fined for INR 12 Lakh for maintaining a slow-over rate against the Chennai Super Kings in the 11th match of the IPL 2025 season at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, March 30.

Notably, RR went on to win by six runs against CSK, registering their first win of the IPL 2025 season. Interestingly, both CSK and RR have won one game each in three games so far this season.

According to the IPL’s code of conduct, captains would be responsible for their team’s slow-over rate offence. Since this was the Rajasthan Royals’ first offence of the IPL 2025 season, Riyan Parag has been fined INR 12 Lakh.

It’s important to note that in the previous IPL seasons, three such offences would result in a match ban for the skipper. However, the BCCI decided to exempt captains from bans for this season, instead, they will impose demerit points and fines.

In the IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya was penalized for three consecutive slow-over offences, resulting in his ban for the first match of this season. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav acted as the stand-in captain.

RR vs CSK - As it happened

After losing the toss, the Royals batted first and posted a 183-run target in 20 overs. Nitish Rana was the star of the show, scoring 81 runs off 36 balls. In response, CSK could score only 176/6 in 20 overs, losing the game by six runs. Wanindu Hasaranga’s four-wicket haul was the talking point in the second innings of the game.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played an exceptional knock, scoring a half-century, while Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni’s late knocks gave CSK some hope. However, their knocks weren’t enough to take their side over the line.
