Sunrisers Hyderabad explosive opener Travis Head is all set to miss the clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, May 19 in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The team’s head coach Daniel Vettori confirmed the news in the pre-match press conference on Sunday, asserting that Head’s return to India has been delayed after the batter tested positive for COVID-19.
However, Vettori didn’t clarify on when Head had actually contracted the virus. Nevertheless, he is confident of Head arriving India on Monday morning and he would be assessed further by the SRH medical staff.
“Travis is coming in tomorrow morning, he was delayed. He actually had COVID, so he couldn’t travel, so he’ll get in tomorrow morning and we’ll assess how he is after that,” Vettori told reporters on Sunday.
Head, who had an exceptional IPL 2025 season, is having an indifferent campaign this time around, scoring only 281 runs from 11 matches before the IPL 2025 season got suspended. In IPL 2024, he smacked 567 runs from 15 games, emerging as one of the top batters of the season.
It’s important to note that both Head and SRH captain Pat Cummins flew back to Australia after the IPL got suspended due to the cross border tensions between India and Pakistan. Moreover, they are expected to take part in the WTC 2025 Final against South Africa.
While Cummins reached India as he had to lead the SRH franchise, Head’s return got delayed due to the virus. Importantly, SRH is already out of playoffs contention and is currently occupying the eighth rank in the standings with only three wins so far.
Importantly, Sunrisers Hyderabad have only three games left in this campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi
