Other big buys for the GT team were Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Gerald Coetzee, Glenn Phillips, and Ishant Sharma.

Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 and reached the finals of the IPL 2023, but it was under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Pandya decided to move back to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024, and MI gained him from GT in an all-cash deal of INR 15 crores.

This led to Shubman Gill becoming the captain of the GT franchise for IPL 2024, and though the team didn’t perform poorly, they failed to make it into the playoffs of the tournament. GT finished 8th in the 10-team competition with 5 wins and 7 losses from 14 games and an NRR of -1.063.

Shubman Gill will have a chance to redeem himself as captain of the Gujarat Titans as he was chosen over the tried and tested Rashid Khan, who has captained Afghanistan and MI Cape Town in SA20.
