Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had an excellent outing in the IPL 2025 auction as they decided to revamp the mega auction. As they prepare for the next IPL season, the team made it apparent that they wanted to add a mix of seasoned players and up-and-coming talent to their roster.
Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Lucknow Super Giants had retained five players in total. They were Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badoni.
With a stellar lineup put together by the record-breaking Rs 27 crore purchase of Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) caused a stir at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
In addition to making him the costliest purchase of the auction, Pant's Rs 27 crore acquisition demonstrated LSG's resolve to find a match-winner.
When the team paid Rs 9.75 crore to acquire Avesh Khan, they significantly bolstered their roster. The bowling attack gains strength from the Indian pacer, who has been a reliable performer in past IPL seasons.
For Rs 7.50 crore, LSG acquired South African veteran David Miller for the middle order. Miller, who is well-known for his ability to finish, gives the batting unit consistency and expertise. Mitchell Marsh (Rs 3.40 crore) and Aiden Markram (Rs 2 crore), both all-rounders, improve the team's balance by offering bowling and batting depth.
Who is the captain of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025?
KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya, and Nicholas Pooran had captained the LSG franchise in the previous three seasons in IPL 2022, 2023, and 2024. KL Rahul captained the Lucknow Super Giants in the majority of the IPL seasons, with Krunal Pandya and Pooran filling in when he was injured.
However, in IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants have made Rishabh Pant the captain of the franchise. Pant will be LSG’s fourth captain after KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya.
Pant has accumulated 3,284 runs at an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 148.93 in 111 games since making his IPL debut in 2016. In the tournament, he has one hundred and eighteen fifties.
He captained Delhi Capitals in 43 games, winning 23 and losing 19 with one game tied. DC didn’t want him to captain the side in IPL 2025, and hence the two parties separated on mutual understanding.
Under Pant’s leadership and the tutelage of head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan, Lucknow Super Giants will aim to clinch the IPL title after reaching the playoffs in 2022 and 2023.
