The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), have retained a solid core of 17 players for IPL 2026. However, they released six players and will now enter the mini-auction with a purse of Rs. 16.4 crore, with eight slots to be filled, including two overseas slots.
Looking at their retained list and last season’s playing XI, RCB seem to need batters, especially someone for the number five role—and some back-up options for the opener and number three positions.
Here are the 5 batters RCB might target in the IPL 2026 mini-auction
1. Rachin Ravindra
This young Kiwi batter is someone RCB may really like. Rachin Ravindra is known for his classical timing and also adds value with his left-arm orthodox bowling. In the last two IPL seasons with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he scored 413 runs at a strike rate of 143.90. Although he bowled only two overs and did not take a wicket, his batting versatility stands out.
For RCB, he can be a solid back-up opener to Phil Salt and can easily slot in at number three. His parental connection to Bengaluru might also work in RCB’s favour. His parents, Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa, were born in the city, and his grandparents still live there. It would be special for the family to see Rachin wearing the famous red and gold in future IPL seasons.
2. Jake Fraser-McGurk
The explosive Australian batter made a stunning IPL entry in 2024, scoring 330 runs in nine innings for Delhi Capitals (DC). The franchise kept faith in him for the 2025 season, but he managed only 55 runs in six innings.
Now that DC have released him, RCB can look at him purely as a back-up overseas opener. His attacking approach is similar to Phil Salt’s, which makes him a like-for-like replacement option.
3. Venkatesh Iyer
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Venkatesh Iyer, freeing Rs. 23.75 crore. After buying him at that price and naming him vice-captain, Iyer had a tough 2025 season, scoring only 142 runs in seven innings, including one fifty.
But his all-round ability, as a medium-pace option, and the advantage of being an Indian player might interest RCB. They could see him as a backup for number three or number five, and he can also open if needed.
4. Wiaan Mulder
South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder is another utility option for RCB. He can bat at the top, as shown in international cricket, and he also provides wickets with the ball. His ability to contribute in both departments makes him an appealing backup choice for the middle order.
5. Abhinav Manohar
This Indian batter could be a surprise pick for RCB. He impressed in the 2022 and 2023 seasons with strong power-hitting in the middle and lower order, striking at 144.00 and 137.34 for the Gujarat Titans (GT).
But his form dipped in the next two seasons (2024 - GT, 2025 - SRH), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have now released him. Having an Indian power-hitter who can play the finisher’s role is a luxury for any team, and RCB may look at him as a backup option for that spot.
