The IPL 2026 mini-auction is all set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16. All 10 franchises have already named their retained players and, with the available purses, they will head into the auction with an aim of making some quality additions.

A total of 77 slots are to be filled, with 359 players set to go under the hammer. Initially, 1,355 names were listed, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cut that down to a final list of 359 players, of which 244 are Indian and 115 are overseas.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will go into the upcoming season as the defending champions after bagging their maiden IPL title in 2025. Currently, they can add a maximum of eight players to their retained squad, with an available purse of INR 16.4 crore.

However, IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have the most slots available to fill (13). They are also entering the mini-auction with the highest available purse of INR 64.3 crore. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians can add a maximum of five players and have the least amount available in their purse, INR 2.75 crore.

Some big, IPL-proven names will not be available this time around as they decided not to list their names, including Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Moeen Ali, and a few others. Andre Russell will also not be seen in action anymore as a player in the IPL, having announced his retirement from the tournament after KKR decided not to retain him following an 11-year association. However, he will remain with KKR as their ‘Power Coach’ in the coaching setup.

Eyes will be on players like Cameron Green, Venkatesh Iyer, and Matheesha Pathirana to see where these talents finally land. Green could be the player who ends up bagging a huge IPL deal at the end of the mini-auction.
