IPL 2024 was the year when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) brought an attacking brand of cricket under Pat Cummins’ leadership. It worked instantly, and they finished as the runners-up that season. Therefore, expectations were much higher in IPL 2025, but they failed to live up to them.
In 2025, SRH did not qualify for the playoffs, finishing sixth with 13 points from 14 games (six wins, one no result, and seven losses). Hence, going into the 2026 season, SRH fans will hope for a better show.
Ahead of the recently concluded mini-auction, SRH retained 15 players and entered the auction with an available purse of INR 25.5 crore and a maximum of 10 slots to be filled. They added 10 players to their squad, but fans were not entirely pleased with the acquisitions.
SRH spent a massive INR 13 crore to sign England all-rounder Liam Livingstone. He was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) title-winning squad in 2025 but failed to deliver consistent individual performances, which is why RCB did not retain him. Spending such a big amount on Livingstone left many SRH fans surprised.
Australia’s 25-year-old all-rounder Jack Edwards is another player in whom the franchise showed faith by spending INR 3 crore. However, SRH’s batting line-up will once again be led by the explosive opening pair of India’s Abhishek Sharma (currently the world’s No. 1 ranked T20I batter) and Australia’s Travis Head.
Ishan Kishan could be a key player for the side, and fans will hope for more consistency from him in the upcoming season. He, recently, guided Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 title. The Jharkhand skipper was named Player of the Match in the final after smashing 101 runs off 49 balls. He finished the tournament as the highest run-getter, scoring 517 runs in 10 innings at an average of 57.44 and a strike rate of 197.32, including two fifties and two centuries.
