With only 7 victories, the Delhi Capitals (DC) had a disappointing IPL 2025 season and narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing 5th in the standings. A number of those high-profile additions fell short of expectations, even if some costly purchases were made prior to the season. Poor form, inconsistent play, and the absence of influence from important players were crucial factors in DC's lackluster run.
Here are the 3 Expensive DC signings who turned out to be major flops:
1. Jake Fraser-McGurk
Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was signed for ₹9 crore using the Right to Match (RTM) card, only scored 55 runs in six games with a strike rate of 105.77 and an average of 9.16. His inconsistency at the top order was highlighted by his two ducks and his greatest score of 38.
Further strain was placed on the middle order by Fraser-McGurk's incapacity to produce reliable beginnings. DC's batting momentum was further hindered by his early dismissals in pivotal matches, including a first-ball duck against the Mumbai Indians.
2. T. Natarajan
T. Natarajan, who cost ₹10.75 crore, was benched for most of DC's games and only appeared in one IPL 2025 match, giving up 49 runs in three overs without taking a wicket. He did not produce the yorkers for which he is renowned, and his economy rate of 16.33 was the highest among DC bowlers.
Because of his poor performance, Natarajan was left out of the starting lineup for the rest of the season. Throughout the final overs, DC's bowling attack was exposed due to his incapacity to make an effect with the ball.
3. Mohit Sharma
Veteran bowler Mohit Sharma, who cost ₹2.2 crore to buy, played in eight games and claimed just two wickets at an economy rate of 10.28 and an average of 128.5. He frequently struggled to contain runs during critical moments, and his best figures were 1/10.
DC's bowling problems were exacerbated by Sharma's costly spells, especially in the powerplay and death overs. It was challenging for the squad to put pressure on the opposing batsman because of his lack of penetration and control.
