IPL: 3 Expensive GT signings who turned out to be major flops

With 18 points and a third-place finish in the league stage, Gujarat Titans (GT) enjoyed a successful IPL 2025 season and advanced to the playoffs. However, after losing in the Eliminator, their campaign came to a disappointing conclusion.

Despite the general success, there were weaknesses in an otherwise strong team as a few of their costly additions were unable to live up to their price tags with reliable performances.

Here are 3 Expensive GT signings who turned out to be major flops:

1. Kagiso Rabada

GT expected Kagiso Rabada to spearhead their pace assault, thus they paid ₹10.75 crore for him. He only played in four games, though, and claimed two wickets at an economy rate of 11.57. He gave up 162 runs in 14 overs, and his highest stats were 14.1.

Rabada's one-month suspension for failing a drug test earlier in the year further tarnished his minimal involvement. GT's bowling team lacked the anticipated potency as a result of his absence and poor performance upon his return.

2. Gerald Coetzee

Gerald Coetzee, who was signed for ₹2.40 crore, was supposed to improve GT's bowling options. He bowled three overs in the Eliminator against the Mumbai Indians, giving up 51 runs without taking a wicket. In one game, his economy rate was an alarming 17.00.

Coetzee's costly spell in a pivotal knockout game, where he claimed two wickets at economy of 10.91 in four games, demonstrated his inability to perform well under duress. GT's elimination from the competition was influenced by his incapacity to limit runs or take wickets.

3. Arshad Khan

For ₹1.30 crore, GT acquired Arshad Khan in the hopes of seeing strong all-around performances. He did not, however, contribute much and had few chances to demonstrate his abilities. He participated in nine games and claimed six wickets at a 10.33 economy rate.

The return on GT's investment was called into doubt by Arshad's lack of effect, particularly in pivotal games. His lackluster season served as a reminder of how difficult it can be to integrate fresh talent into demanding situations.
