With six victories from 14 games, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finished seventh in the league stage of the 2025 Indian Premier League after a mediocre performance. Despite moments of genius, they were unable to gain traction and were eliminated from the playoffs.
A few of their expensive acquisitions didn't have a significant effect, which added to the team's inconsistent play and lackluster showing. This demonstrated how difficult it was for LSG to establish the proper depth and balance in their squad.
Here are the 3 Expensive LSG signings who turned out to be major flops:
1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant, who was supposed to be a staple in LSG's middle order, was acquired for a record ₹27 crore. But in 14 games, he only managed 269 runs with a strike rate of 133.16 and an average of 24.25, with one century and one fifty.
The team's batting lineup was under strain due to his erratic form and inability to turn starts into big innings. Pant's repeated failure to score significantly in crucial situations masked his sporadic aggressive strokes. Since LSG found it difficult to construct strong innings around him, his performance did not warrant the high price tag.
2. Akash Deep
Akash Deep, purchased for ₹8 crore, was anticipated to be a vital pacer for LSG's middle overs. He took just three wickets in six games at an economy rate of 12.05, which was a dismal performance for a bowler of his quality. He struggled to stay in control and frequently gave away important runs, preventing him from applying pressure to the opposition batters.
LSG's bowling attack was severely undermined by this lack of impact, particularly in close games. The team often had to rely heavily on other bowlers because Akash was unable to produce breakthroughs.
3. David Miller
In hopes that David Miller's experience would shine in the final overs, LSG spent ₹7.5 crore on him. But Miller only scored 153 runs at a strike rate of 127.50 in 11 innings. He failed to quicken the innings when needed and lacked the steady power hitting expected of him.
In close games, Miller's inability to finish or hit boundaries cost LSG important runs. His poor play made it more difficult for the squad to reach or surpass competitive totals.
