IPL Fairplay Award winners list from 2008 to 2024 (Updated)

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Fair Play Award has been associated with the league since its inception. The award is presented annually to a team that exemplifies the highest standard of sportsmanship, adhering to the spirit of the game and showcasing respect towards the opponents and the laws of the game. 

Evaluation of the fair play is done by the on-field umpires who assign points after each match. Despite being an underrated recognition in a fast-paced and tension-filled tournament, the Fair Play Award highlights the importance of upholding the values of cricket. 

Talking about the winners, the Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful franchise when it comes to winning the Fair Play Award. The men-in-yellow have managed to win the award a record six times. 

Teams like Rajasthan Royals and Surisers Hyderabad have managed to win the award three times each. Notably, teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders are yet to win this award. In 2022, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans were the first teams to share the trophy in a season.

Mumbai Indians have also managed to win the fair play twice, in 2018 and 2020. They managed to win the trophy as well as the Fair Play Award in the same year, just like the Chennai Super Kings and Surisers Hyderabad managed to do in 2011 and 2016 respectively. 

The award reinforces the idea that cricket is not just about winning but playing with honor and respect. As the game evolves every year, the award continues to stand as a beacon of sportsmanship, inspiring the teams to compete not just for the glory but for the honor of playing the game in its true spirit.
