Ishan Kishan signs for Nottinghamshire on a short-term deal

Indian top-order batter Ishan Kishan has been roped in by the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on a short-term deal to represent the team in two County Championship games in the ongoing season.

Notably, the keeper-batter will replace the South Africa Kyle Verreynne, who will represent his national team, that is travelling to Zimbabwe for a two-match Test series later this month, starting on June 28.

Moving into the details of Kishan’s first-class numbers, he has 3447 runs from 58 FC games, including eight centuries and 17 half-centuries. Moreover, he has 118 catches and 11 stumps from behind the wicket.

He will be available for selection for the game against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, starting on June 22 and against Somerset in Taunton on June 29. This will be Kishan’s first-ever experience in county cricket.

"I'm feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills. I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills,” Kishan said.

"Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there,” he added.

Furthermore, the Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores has also opened up on the new Indian signing, stating that Kishan’s desire to move his red-ball game forward has caught his eyes.

"We want players to be themselves and to bring their own game and something that especially excites me about Ishan is how keen he is to be involved in county cricket,” Peter Moores said.

"He brings proven quality in his ball-striking as a hard-hitting middle-order batter, and he's keen to move his red ball game forward, which I'm sure will make him hungry to perform,” he added.

Nottinghamshire has four wins in seven games so far, occupying the top spot in Division One of the County Championship.
