Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has stated that he feels bad for the Pakistani team, led by Salman Ali Agha, for being under extreme pressure in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Ishant has also questioned whether Pakistan can handle more pressure from the Indian team and fans. Moreover, he added that when the Pakistan side has legendary players, the pressure used to be a lot more during an India vs Pakistan match, adding that the current team is nowhere close.
"Pakistan already have so much pressure on them, how will they handle more from us? If you look at the matches, their fans in the crowd are always shouting behind them from the stands. Actually, sometimes I feel bad for them," Ishant said.
"The pressure will be high (during an India vs Pakistan match), but that was more during the time when they had great players like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Afridi... these were great players. The kind of talent, exposure and infrastructure we have, they are not even close," he added.
Moving into the details of India’s most recent game against Pakistan in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, Pakistan was asked to bat first after losing the toss. Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan’s 58 in 45 balls, with five fours and three sixes, helped them to post 171/5 in 20 overs.
Shivam Dube (2/33) was the star bowler for India, while Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya got one wicket apiece. In the chase, Abhishek Sharma’s 74 in 39 balls, with six fours and five sixes, and Shubman Gill’s 47 in 28 balls, with eight fours, helped India to be in a good position. Eventually, Tilak Varma’s 30* in 19 balls, with two fours and two sixes, propelled India to win the game by six wickets
