It is never easy switching between formats in such a short span of time: KL Rahul

Indian opening batter KL Rahul, who scored an exceptional century in the second innings of the Leeds Test vs England, has stated that it is very tough to switch between formats in a short span of time. Notably, Rahul switched to the red-ball format after playing the IPL 2025 season for the Delhi Capitals.

Rahul asserted that for the same reason, he thought of playing for India A to customize himself to the conditions in England, which turned out to be an ideal preparation for the opening batter as he smacked 42 and 137 in the opening Test.

"It’s never easy switching between formats, especially in such a short span of time. That’s why I made the decision to travel to England early. There was an opportunity to play in the India A game against the England Lions, and I felt that would be ideal preparation, just to be out in the middle and get some game time under my belt,” KL Rahul told ‘Match Centre Live’ on JioHotstar.

“It was important for me to face the Dukes ball, get used to the colder, windier conditions, and really just reacquaint myself with the rhythm of Test cricket. Spending time leaving deliveries, adjusting my tempo, and finding that mindset again, it all played a big role in helping me feel settled,” he added.

Furthermore, Rahul reckoned that the dressing room environment has been exceptional, as there are open conversations. Also, he added that the team environment offers a very relaxed and welcoming space for everyone in the squad.

“I’ve played with most of the guys in this squad, many have been part of the Test setup before, and a few are returning to the format. It’s a great opportunity to spend time with them, share experiences, and have those open conversations. The dressing room, to be honest, is a very relaxed and welcoming space. Anyone can walk up and chat, whether it’s about what to expect in English conditions or how to prepare themselves mentally and technically to give themselves the best chance to succeed,” he concluded.
