Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has finally opened up on his omission from the Indian T20I squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 9 in the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking exclusively on the IQOO YouTube channel’s podcast, Iyer stated that it can be frustrating for any player who knows he deserves to be in the playing XI but is not selected. However, he added that eventually the goal is for the team to win.
“It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. That time, it is frustrating,” Iyer said in an iQOO podcast.
“But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing (out) their best, you support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win and when the team is winning, everyone is happy,” he added.
“But as I keep talking about integrity, if you don’t get a chance, you have to see to it that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you have to perform only when someone is watching. Even when no one is watching, you have to keep doing your work. That’s integrity,” he noted.
India is set to lock horns with the hosts UAE on Wednesday, September 10. Later, they will lock horns with the arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 14. In their last group game, they will take on Oman on Friday, September 19.
India’s squad for Asia Cup: Surya Kumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh.
