Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik and ex-England seamer Stuart Broad were baffled with the Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s poor captaincy tactics on the third day of the Manchester Test against England.

Interestingly, Gill took 69 overs to bring Sundar into the bowling attack on Day 3, which raised  a lot of eyebrows. It’s important to note that Sundar bowled an exceptional spell at Lord’s, scalping a four-wicket haul.

While Jadeja had completed almost 12 overs before lunch on Day 3, there were no signs of Sundar at that point of time. Karthik and Broad, who were part of the commentary set-up, at that point of time, slammed Gill for his poor tactics.

"I really feel they should think of bringing in Washington Sundar at this stage. He's been picked in the squad as a bowler who can give you a little bit with the bat, it's been 67 overs so far and he's still yet to bowl an over. He got four wickets at Lord's, got the ball to drift, we haven't seen Jadeja finding as much drift. I think it's time Shubman Gill has a think about Washington Sundar,” Karthik said on SkySports Cricket.

"It makes no sense to me really," Broad said. "At Lord's, Sundar bowled beautifully – 4-22 I think it was, got rid of Root on the sweep, crucial wickets – and then to not have bowled a ball in 67 overs when the opposition team were 301-2 just seems bizarre,” Broad responded.

As soon as Sundar came to bowl, he scalped the wickets of Ollie Pope for 71 runs and Harry Brook for three runs as he briefly kept England on the backfoot. However, England's domination continued later as they ended Day 3 at 544/7 in 135 overs, taking the lead of 186 runs.
