Star England pacer Mark Wood has stated that the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world at the moment, adding that he has the game-changing ability across all three formats of the game.
Speaking during the first Headingley Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Leeds, Wood asserted that England batters need to be aware of the challenge Bumrah poses on the second and third days of the first innings with his precision and deceptive pace.
"He's a phenomenal bowler in all formats and extremely dangerous. I can honestly say he's very difficult to pick and face. He's quicker than he looks. Right now, he's the best bowler in the world, and he's capable of changing the course of a match at any moment," Wood told Sky Sports.
It’s important to note that Wood has been sidelined from the ongoing Test after he underwent knee surgery earlier this year. However, he is expected to resume his bowling duties in the nets very soon and would be available to return for the fifth and final Test.
Shifting our focus to the details of the Leeds Test, India got all out for 471 runs in 113 overs after putting up an excellent show on Day 1. Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147), and Rishabh Pant (134) were the star batters in the first innings. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the star bowlers for England, pocketing four wickets apiece.
In reply, England scored 209/3 in 49 overs at stumps on Day 2. No.3 batter Ollie Pope is batting on 100* in 131 balls with 13 fours. On the other hand, Joe Root (28), Zak Crawley (4), and Ben Duckett (62) were back in the hut.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the lone wicket-taker for Team India, scalping three important wickets on Day 2.
