Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who made his comeback against the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 20th match of the IPL 2025 season at the Wankhede Stadium, ended with figures of 0/29 in four overs.
Notably, RCB went on to win the high-scoring game by 12 runs. A total of 430 runs were scored between both sides on this Mumbai flat track. Interestingly, Bumrah was dispatched to maximum by Virat Kohli in his very first over of the game.
Former Indian captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar feels Bumrah needs a few more games to gain his usual 150 Kmph pace once he gets into full confidence. Importantly, Bumrah is making a comeback after a long break due to a back injury.
“The first and foremost thing was seeing him come in steaming and bowling at his usual pace — over 140 km/h. I believe with a few more games under his belt, he’ll likely hit 150 km/h as he gains more confidence in his back and feels secure enough to bowl at full tilt. In T20s, where you’re not bowling long spells, it’s a lot easier for bowlers to stay sharp and bowl at full speed. That’s exactly what we saw with Bumrah,” Sunil Gavaskar said on air during the MI vs RCB match.
Moreover, the former Indian batting legend also talked about Mumbai Indians opening batter Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling to score runs in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Gavaskar is of the opinion that the team management would be expecting a solid knock from him in the next couple of matches.
“Over the next couple of games, they’ll be hoping for a solid knock. Even if he doesn’t get a big score immediately, if he can bat through the power-play into the 8th or 9th over and score a steady 30–40, that will help build confidence. But when he gets out in the powerplay, it hurts — whether it’s for Mumbai Indians, India, or any team he’s playing for. He has so much to contribute. I believe his shot selection needs a bit of tempering. You have to be aggressive and score as much as possible in the first six overs, but choosing the right risks is key. If he finds that balance, he’ll be back to scoring big runs again,” he stated.
