Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation fast bowler who has graced the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the 2013 season. He was unearthed by Mumbai Indians talent scout John Wright in 2013. Wright saw him bowl in a domestic match in Gujarat and decided to recruit the pacer.

Bumrah was bought by Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 10 lakhs in the IPL 2013 auction. This was a training phase for the young pacer, who made his debut for MI against Royal Challengers Bangalore and took three wickets, including AB de Villiers as his first-ever IPL wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah learned the tricks under MI legend Lasith Malinga and other pacers who played for the franchise. He also gained a lot of knowledge from Zaheer Khan, who was MI director of cricket. And Bumrah has gone on to become a legend for both Indian cricket and the Mumbai Indians. He was retained at the highest slab of INR 18 crores by MI before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Jasprit Bumrah has played 133 matches in his IPL career, taking 165 wickets, at an economy of nearly 7.30 runs per over. His best individual figure is 5/10. Bumrah has been part of all MI’s IPL title wins in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Jasprit Bumrah’s salary increase in IPL

Jasprit Bumrah was first bought by the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2013 for his base price of INR 10 lakhs and played the next season in IPL 2014 for the same price. In IPL 2015-2017, Mumbai Indians paid Jasprit Bumrah INR 1.20 crores to continue their association.

However, in the IPL 2018 mega auction, the Mumbai Indians retained his services again, and the star pacer got a hefty hike of 483.33%, with his salary becoming INR 7 crores. He remained at this price till IPL 202. When another mega auction came in IPL 2022, he was retained for INR 12 crores by the MI franchise.

He missed the IPL 2023 owing to his back issues and made a good return in IPL 2024, taking his 150th wicket in the tournament. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Jasprit Bumrah was again retained, and after discussion between the 5 retained players, Jasprit Bumrah got another salary hike and got INR 18 crores in return.
