Former Australian opening batter, David Warner, who is known for his controversial remarks off the field, has come up with yet another startling comment, pointing out England talismanic batter Joe Root, who is yet to score a Test ton in Australia.

With the Ashes 2025-26 lined up later this year in Australia, Warner feels Root will have nightmares about Josh Hazlewood. Notably, the star pacer has dismissed Root on 10 instances in the longest format of the game.

"I think he (Root) will have nightmares before he gets over there about Josh Hazlewood. A bit like me and Broady," Warner stated.

Speaking about his record in Australia, in 14 Tests, Root could score only 892 runs at an average of 35.68 with nine fifty-plus scores, failing to score a century, which involves two ducks. However, Warner feels Root would like to score a ton this time around.

"Joe is a hell of a cricket player. But I'm sure he'd like to score a hundred in Australia. It's one that has eluded him," he added.

Interestingly, former England seamer Stuart Broad and Warner were involved in a heated discussion. While Warner stated that Root has to take the surfboard off his front leg against Hazlewood, Broad was quick to counter it down.

"The big anchor there is Rooty, who is yet to score a hundred in Australia. Josh Hazlewood tends to have his number quite a lot. He'll have to take the surfboard off his front leg," Warner told BBC Sport.

"I've never heard England's best-ever batter's front pad called a surfboard. Just for clarity. Hazlewood has got Rooty LBW in Test cricket three times. Three," Broad posted on X.

In the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Root ended the series as the leading run-scorer for England, amassing 537 runs from nine innings at an average of 67.12 with three centuries and a fifty.
