“He had his own challenges” - Kane Williamson reveals where he ranks Virat Kohli among fab four

Former New Zealand captain and analyst Kane Williamson, who was part of the Sky Sports Cricket panel, has revealed where he ranks the Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli among the Fab Four across formats.

Notably, former legendary captain Martin Crowe was the one who coined the phrase ‘Fab Four’ involving the four sensations of international cricket back in 2014: Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, and Steve Smith.

Williamson stated that the Indian star batter has been the greatest all-format player in the past 15 years, adding that he had to face extreme pressurized conditions in a cricket-obsessed country like India. Moreover, he reckoned that he had been in touch with the other three batters.

“Virat is probably the greatest all-format player we've seen in the last 15 years. He had his own challenges in an absolute cricket-obsessed country, and he was at the top of the tree. It's a great relationship in slightly different ways,” Kane Williamson told Sky Sports Cricket.

We've stayed in touch in a lot of ways as well. But, yeah, it was not really a competitive thing. You're just in the team and you want to compete as a team,” he added.

Virat Kohli, who recently announced his retirement from the longest format of the game ahead of the England tour, enjoyed playing all three formats of the game, rising to No.1 ranking across all three formats with his consistent stroke play.

Moreover, Kohli also bid adieu to T20Is after India won the T20 World Cup in June 2024. With the ICC ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in 2027, Kohli aims to bag the silverware after initially winning it in 2011 under MS Dhoni.

While the Indian talismanic batter has amassed 9230 runs in 123 Tests, he has scored 4188 runs in 125 T20Is. In 302 ODIs, he has accumulated 14181 runs at an average of 57.88.
