Once again, the Netherlands impressed everyone with their stunning performance and a convincing win in a low-scoring affair against Bangladesh. Notably, both teams locked horns in the 28th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, October 29.

The Dutch skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and asked his batters to take the charge first; batting first, the Netherlands were looking in trouble after losing 5 wickets on the score of 107 runs in 27 overs. But then came an amazing and crucial partnership of 78 runs for the fifth wicket between skipper Edwards and middle-order batter Sybrand Engelbrecht.

Before that, the veteran number three batter also scored 41 runs with 8 fours followed by a 68-run knock played by skipper Edwards himself, hitting 6 fours. Other than these two, Engelbrecht also contributed with the much-needed 35 runs, hitting 3 fours.

Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi Hasan scalped two wickets each for Bangladesh, alongside one wicket picked by skipper Shakib Al Hasan.

Paul van Meekeren leads the Dutch attack to bundle out Bangladesh

While chasing the target, the Bangladesh batting lineup was completely shattered against the Dutch bowling attack led by the star pace spearhead Paul Van Meekeren. It was only Mehidy Hasan Miraz who looked struggling as he scored 35 runs, hitting 5 fours and a six with the willow.

Other than him, the veteran middle-order batter Mahmudullah and lower-order batter Mustafizur Rahman could score 20 runs each. Eventually, the Dutch bowlers bundled out Bangladesh on the score of 142 runs and won the match by a big margin of 87 runs to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede scalped 4 and 2 wickets, respectively, alongside one wicket each bagged by Aryan Dutt, Logan Van Beek, and Colin Ackermann.

Van Meekeren won the ‘Player of the Match award for his sensational match-winning bowling performance.
