“We are still the laughing stock in the West Indies” - Kieron Pollard responds sharply to the crowd booing during the CPL 2025 Final

Trinbago Knight Riders all-rounder Kieron Pollard has opened up on the booing he has been receiving from the crowd at different parts of the Caribbean Islands during the Caribbean Premier League.

Speaking after winning the player of the tournament award, Pollard has revealed his painful comments after turning out to be a laughing stock for many in the West Indies, adding that he has represented the entire Caribbean over a period of time and put them on the map in the shortest format of the game.

“It (winning the title) means a lot, but one thing I will say, there are three countries in the Caribbean where we have played, and the booing is boring now. We are still the laughing stock of cricket in the West Indies. You have a guy who has represented the entire Caribbean over a period of time, putting them on the map in the format. But we still don’t appreciate him. I’m not bitter, but I feel sorry, not for myself.”

“Kieron Pollard has played cricket, that’s what I know. I got the opportunity, God has given me a talent, and I have represented my family and my country. I don’t politicise things, I do it because I love the game, I love the sport,” he said.

“This means a lot, five-time champions, but it’s quite ironic that we are still the laughing stock of cricket in the world”, added Pollard.

Notably, Trinbago Knight Riders, led by Nicholas Pooran, defeated the Imran Tahir-led Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2025 Final on Monday, September 22, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. 

Interestingly, Pollard and his teammates received a lot of booing from the Guyanese crowd, which didn’t go down well with the legendary all-rounder. Earlier in CPL 2024, Pollard was subjected to the crowd booing at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia after his unbeaten half-century for the Knight Riders, despite him being the captain of St Lucia franchise in the past.
