Indian opening batter KL Rahul feels the Leeds surface is offering an uneven bounce as the play is all set to head to the exciting fifth and final day. Rahul, who scored 42 and 137 in two innings, feels there would be a result in the Headingley Test.
While Team India needs 10 wickets to stage a win, England requires another 350 runs from 90 overs to bag an exciting win. Interestingly, England managed only one draw in their last 36 Tests under Ben Stokes’ captaincy in Ashes 2023 during the rain-affected Manchester Test.
"There's definitely going to be a result. That's what England have said very openly, and their style of cricket suggests that as well. It gives us a good opportunity to pick up 10 wickets. We know how they're going to come out and bat on day five,” KL Rahul said at the post day press conference.
"The wicket today was a very tricky wicket: I spent a lot of time batting there and I didn't feel set at all at any given stage. The wicket is taking a beating, and tomorrow might break even more. We know their style of cricket, so [we'll] try to keep that in the back of our heads and try to see what lines and lengths we can bowl and how we can get them out,” he added.
Furthermore, Rahul also talked about the lower-order collapse twice in the game. While India lost seven wickets for 41 runs in the first innings, they lost six wickets for 31 runs in the second innings, which is a concerning factor ahead of the upcoming games for the visitors.
"There was a little bit of discussion about how many runs we need on the board or... maybe giving them a few overs to bat in the evening today and see if we can pick up a wicket or two. Ideally, from the position we were in, we would've wanted at least 40 or 50 runs more,” he observed.
