The SA20 auction ahead of the 2026 edition witnessed several highs and lows during the event. While there was intense bidding war for some top players, a few of them had no takers at the auction at all. Dewald Brevis and Aiden Markram stole all the limelight at the auction as they were the most expensive players in history.

Brevis was sold for a massive amount of R16.5 million to Pretoria Capitals while Aiden Markram’s new home is Durban Super Giants as the franchise shelled a huge amount of R14 million to secure his services.

However, apart from them and a few other players, a lot of cricketers also went unsold at the auction, which is generally the case. Among South African players, Andile Phehlukwayo and Junior Dala were big players to find no takers at the event. Interestingly, South Africa’s Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma went unsold yet again at the auction, just like last year.

Bavuma won the World Test Championship (WTC) for South Africa earlier this year and also led the team to ODI series wins in Australia and England but even then none of the franchises were attracted by his leadership qualities.

Anderson and Moeen Ali also go unsold

Other notable players to go unsold were James Anderson and Moeen Ali of England both of whom are now retired from international cricket. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera is still a potent batter at the top of the order but won’t feature in the next edition of SA20. Among other players to go unsold were Mustafizur Rahman, Reece Topley, Jordan Cox, Maheesh Theekshana and Karim Janat.

Some players from this list are among the better players in T20 cricket but their abiltiies didn’t quite lure the franchises enough to place bids on them.

Here’s the list of unsold players: Andile Phehlukwayo (South Africa, All-rounder), Junior Dala (South Africa, All-rounder), Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh, Bowler), Kusal Perera (Sri Lanka, Batter), James Anderson (England, Bowler), Moeen Ali (England, All-rounder), Temba Bavuma (South Africa, Batter), Reece Topley (England, Bowler), Jordan Cox (England, Batter), Maheesh Theekshana (Sri Lanka, Spinner), Karim Janat (Afghanistan, All-rounder).
