Former Indian middle-order batter and commentator Manoj Tiwary has opened up on Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal not being included in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 9 in the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking to ANI in an exclusive chat, Tiwary went down the memory lane, revealing the head coach Gautam Gambhir’s words of Yashasvi Jaiswal walking into the Indian T20I team at any given moment.

Furthermore, he also heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer, who had two exceptional IPL seasons for the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings. While he led KKR to IPL 2024 title win, he propelled PBKS to the grand finale in IPL 2025. Moreover, he added that the selection process should be made transparent.

“Two deserving candidates have been left out of the team. One is Shreyas Iyer and the other is Yashasvi Jaiswal. If you see old videos of the current head coach Gautam Gambhir, he had said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is such a player who at any given moment can walk into India’s T20 team. And you cannot think of keeping him out of T20s. Now that he himself is the coach, there is no place for Yashasvi,” Manoj Tiwary said to ANI.

“Also, if you see Shreyas Iyer’s performance in last year’s IPL and the domestic circuit. He has been one of the best in the format. The way he averaged in 50s while making runs, guided Punjab Kings to the IPL final and before that, captained KKR to the title, it’s an eye-opener that he didn’t get a place in the T20 side. This is why I have been saying for years now that the selection process should be made live so that sports lovers know who has been selected and why,” he added.

India’s squad for Asia Cup: Surya Kumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh.

Standby players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel.
