Former Indian spinner and analyst Ravi Ashwin has opened up on the Indian seamer Prasidh Krishna not being included in the 15-man squad for the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 9, in the United Arab Emirates.
Interestingly, Krishna, who ended the IPL 2025 season with the purple cap, has been included in the reverse players alongside Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, which didn’t go down well with many.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin heaped praise on the Gujarat Titans pacer Prasidh Krishna for having an excellent season for his franchise in the recently concluded season. However, he felt bad for the seamer for not making cut to the final squad.
"Prasidh Krishna had a good season with the Rajasthan Royals. Then he suffered a career-threatening back injury. He underwent two consecutive back surgeries. Last year, remember, Gujarat was one of the toughest venues to bowl in. He is tall, he gets bounce, he bowls yorkers. The definition of his T20 bowling has changed. If I were Prasidh Krishna, I would be disappointed,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Krishna scalped 25 wickets from 15 games in the IPL 2025 season at an average of 19.52 and an economy of 8.27 with the best bowling figures of 4/41. However, Harshit Rana was included ahead of Krishna in the final 15.
"But in the case of Prasidh and Harshit Rana, the last time Harshit played a T20I, in Pune, he had some performances behind him. Prasidh can wait for his chance, but I feel he will get it. Before the T20 World Cup, Prasidh Krishna will get his chance, according to me. Mark my words, he will get his chance,” Ashwin added.
India’s T20I squad for Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Shubman Gill (vc), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson.
Standby players: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal.
