Former Indian cricketer and analyst Mohammad Kaif has stated that the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is bowling three out of his four overs inside the powerplay overs to not get injured again.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif stated that the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav is making sure Bumrah doesn’t get injured again before they make it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

“(Why is Bumrah bowling his 3 inside powerplay?) Why is this happening? It’s because there is a connection with his injury. Surya is making sure that Bumrah doesn’t get injured again… If the body is warm, don’t let it take a break or cool down. When the back is warm, there won’t be any strain on the muscle,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Kaif felt that Rohit Sharma was known for using Bumrah’s one over in the powerplay, while he comes back for the 13th over and then bowls 17th and 19th in the death overs. However, Kaif also added that he would love to see whether Surya continues the ongoing pattern.

“The plan is that he doesn’t get injured again; this has been taken care of in this Asia Cup. This didn’t happen before that Bumrah repeatedly bowled his three overs… Even when Rohit Sharma was captain, he didn’t bowl three overs in a row,” he added.

“I want to see whether Surya will continue like this. Whatever experiment he’s done with Bumrah, whether he’ll continue with that. Because, in my view, Bumrah’s 17th and 19th overs can help India win the 2026 T20 World Cup,” he concluded.

On the other hand, former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar wanted Bumrah to be rested for the last Super Four clash against Sri Lanka so that he would get three days rest to manage his workload ahead of the grand finale.
