Former Pakistan batter and analyst Mohammad Yousuf has clarified his stance on the Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, stating that he didn’t mean any disrespect to any sportsman who plays for his country with passion and grace.
“I didn’t mean any disrespect to any sportsman who plays for his country with passion and grace, but why were the Indian media and people praising Irfan Pathan when he said that Shahid Khan Afridi was barking like a dog? Shouldn’t that have been rejected by everyone who talks about dignity and respect?,” Yousuf tweeted with a clarification.
For the unversed, Yousuf referred to the Indian T20I captain as ‘Pig’ on a live channel on Pakistani channel ‘Samaa TV’, which didn’t go down well with many Indian fans and former Indian cricketers.
“India are unable to get out of their filmy world. India should be ashamed of the way they are trying to win—using umpires, torturing (Pakistan) through the match referee. It is a high note,” said Yousuf on Samaa TV. He then began referring to Suryakumar as a “pig.”
Interestingly, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to lodge an official complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC), demanding that the match referee Andy Pycroft be replaced for violating the code of conduct after the no-handshake controversy against India. However, ICC was quick to reject it.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) request to remove Andy Pycroft (India-Pakistan match referee) is set to be officially rejected. If the ICC accepts their demand, it will set a wrong precedent. PCB will be informed by the ICC. Expect no official statement,” an ICC source told ANI.
“If the ICC accepts their demand, it could create a problematic precedent—where any new or smaller cricketing nation may make similar demands in future tournaments. And if the ICC then denies those demands, they could be accused of favoritism.”
