Star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his readiness to make a competitive comeback to international cricket. Shami posted a video of him bowling in the nets and claimed that he was 'ready to take on the world.' This comes as good news for India, who are waiting for Shami's comeback for a long time.
Shami last played for India in the 2023 World Cup final, after which he had surgery on his Achilles tendon in February 2024. After nine months of recovery and rehabilitation, Shami made his comeback in November in the Ranji Trophy game against Madhya Pradesh.
He also played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, representing Bengal. However, he couldn't be fit in time for the final two Tests against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The NCA team provided an update ahead of the Boxing Day Test that Shami had developed swelling on his knee because of the workload and that he would need additional time to return to full fitness.
While Shami would be coming back to full fitness, India are sweating on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness too as he developed back spasms during the fifth and final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. Bumrah did not take any part in the second innings as Australia won the game by six wickets and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014.

Ravi Shastri on Mohammed Shami
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was surprised with the way the whole Shami situation was handled. He felt that Shami should have been a part of the Indian team in Australia and should have continued his rehabilitation.
“I would have kept him part of the team and made sure that his rehabilitation was done with the team," Shastri told the ICC Review. “And then if we thought by the third Test match that no, this guy can’t play the rest of the series, I would let him go."
