Former Indian captain and CSK’s stand-in skipper MS Dhoni has confirmed that it’s too early to decide on his retirement. Moreover, he hasn’t confirmed yet on his participation in the IPL 2026 season as he needs more time to think about it.
Moving into the details, Dhoni further added that he would decide between working hard for the next six to eight months to assess if his body can take up the demands of the shortest format of the game.
“That is the love and affection I have gotten throughout. Not to forget, I am 42 (43). I have played for a long time. A lot of them don’t know when it is going to be my last time, so they want to come and see me play," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation after defeating KKR.
It’s important to note that MSD underwent knee surgery a few years back. Moreover, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has also admitted that the former Indian captain can’t bat for more than 10 overs.
“There is no escaping the fact (that I am in the last phase of my career). After this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another 6-8 months to see if my body can take this pressure. Nothing to decide now, but the love and affection I have seen is excellent," he added.
“There were a few things that did not go our way. You could get emotional about it, talk about the pride factor, but you have to be practical about it," Dhoni stated.
It’s worth noting that CSK bagged a two-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 7. Chennai Super Kings will next take on the Rajasthan Royals in the 63rd match of the season on Monday, May 12.
