MS Dhoni’s humbleness floors Dewald Brevis; reveals his love for playing in Chepauk

Dewald Brevis, a South African cricketer, was signed by the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the middle of the 2025 Indian Premier League season and quickly became a sensation. Surprisingly, "Baby AB," who formerly played for the Mumbai Indians, went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

But by displaying his explosive batting for CSK, he ensured that teams regretted not pursuing him. Brevis played seven games for the CSK in IPL 2025, making 225 runs with two fifties with a strike rate of 180 with a best score of 57.

Since then, Brevis has gone on to make his South Africa debut in all three formats and has 84 runs in 2 Tests, 62 runs in 4 ODIs, and 318 runs in 10 T20Is, including the best score of 125*.

Brevis has now talked about his time with CSK, his relationship with MS Dhoni, the lessons he learned from playing in the IPL, and much more. Brevis said in an interview with Ab de Villiers that Dhoni's humility astounded him.

Dhoni’s door was always open for players to come and engage with him, according to the CSK batter. Brevis claimed to have spent a lot of time in Dhoni's room, watching cricket and talking to him about his interests.

“One thing I can say about MS (Dhoni) is that his humbleness and he as a person stood out for me. Basically, how he is off the field and the time he has for players and for people. His room door is always open. It’s very special, and I enjoyed my time there,” Brevis told AB de Villiers.

Additionally, Brevis talked about how much he loves Chennai and how much he enjoys playing at the MA Chidambaram stadium (Chepauk).

I couldn’t explain how I felt when I batted at Chepauk Stadium. It was incredible, my second entry especially. Obviously, I’m playing for Chennai, so it is a special place for me,” Brevis added.
