The five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians are set to feature in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024, eyeing their sixth title and becoming the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Currently, they are the most successful in the tournament, alongside MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, who have also won five IPL titles in 16 seasons and a 15-year-long history of the tournament.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the SWOT analysis of Mumbai Indians for the Indian Premier League 2024, including their squad, remaining purse, slots, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for them. 

Strengths

One of the major strengths of Mumbai Indians is their mighty batting lineup, including the likes of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside explosive Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma. Apart from this, star South African batter Dewald Brevis and Aussie star Tim David are two additions to the batting lineup owing to their batting prowess at the highest level of the game and across the franchise leagues.

On the other hand, the pace attack of MI, including star Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, alongside star Aussie pacer Jason Beherndorff; both pacers are currently in brilliant form which will surely help MI to get better of the opponents in the next edition of the tournaments.

Weaknesses

Having most of the boxes ticked, the five-time IPL champions have still a weak point in their squad which could be one of the concerns to address in the 2024 edition of IPL; it is none other than the spin bowling attack of the side, which have only one experienced and proven spinner Piyush Chawal, who was retained by the franchise before the mini-auction of the next season. A lack of proper spinners might be a problem for Rohit Sharma’s side in the tournament.

Opportunities

There are a few young names in the squad, including Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, and uncapped Indian batter Vishnu Vinod. So, there are a lot of potential stars in the squad who could be the strong pillars for the side in the future. With said that, it can be acknowledged that MI will have an opportunity to nurture their plans of the future with these young stars and their performances in the Indian Premier League 2024. 

Threats

Recently, Mumbai brought back the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in an all-cash trade with the latter’s recent franchise Gujarat Titans. But the injury issues with Hardik Pandya could be a major concern for the side; apart from Hardik, the vulnerability to injuries for star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is also a big headache for the side. These could be a few of the big threats for them in the next season.

Remaining Purse

Mumbai Indians are currently left with the remaining purse of INR 15.25 Crores ahead of the mini-auction for IPL 2024.
