Ex-England captain Nasser Hussain quipped that if RCB won the IPL 2025, Dinesh Karthik would be intolerable, as this is his first year as the team's coach. Karthik was hired before the 2025 season and retired from the IPL last season. During the IPL 2025 auction, he was instrumental in assisting the think tank in assembling the team.
Karthik had played for the RCB franchise in IPL 2024, before calling time on his cricketing career after the tournament ended. He has moved on to coaching and media roles, often collaborating with Nasser Hussain and others on Sky Sports.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have performed extremely well in the ongoing IPL 2025. They topped the points table with 19 points and then defeated Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur to directly qualify for the final of the tournament.
Being a member of RCB is a really unique sensation, according to Karthik. One of the primary reasons he chose to join the team, according to the RCB batting coach, was the team's first IPL championship.
"Being part of RCB is a very special feeling. Purely because of the brand of cricket that we play, but also the fans that we have. And most importantly, it's a journey that's been filled with lots of highs and lows. But the trophy hadn't reached the shores of Bangalore yet. If I could be part of that journey, why not? That was a big question in my mind. I know how close we were when I played. So here's another opportunity for me as a coach," said Karthik.
“If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable”- Nasser Hussain
The former Indian wicketkeeper's contributions were crucial to Bengaluru's incredible 2025 campaign, which saw them advance to the final after defeating PBKS in Qualifier 1.
Hussain, who works in the commentary box with Karthik, stated on the Sky Sports podcast that if RCB wins the title, the former wicketkeeper will be intolerable. After the 2012 Champions League final, Karthik would behave like John Terry and be at the forefront of the victory celebrations, Michael Atherton added.
“RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor and he’s won it,” Hussain said in jest on the Sky Sports Podcast in a humorous tone.
“He’s unbearable at the best of times, he’s going to be doubly unbearable. He’ll be like John Terry, at the front of the RCB trophy presentation holding it there with Virat Kohli,” Michael Atherton added.
