In a recent piece of news, South Africa is playing without their regular skipper Temba Bavuma in the ongoing 20th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The Proteas are locking horns with the defending champions, England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, it is also the first match of the tournament in Mumbai.

Speaking of Bavuma, the reports have learned that he is ill which eventually led to his omission from the playing XI of South Africa. In his absence, the veteran batter Aiden Markram is leading the side in the all-important match against the Three Lions.

Apart from this, Reeza Hendricks has replaced Temba Bavuma in the opening pair with the veteran Southpaw, Quinton de Kock. Interestingly, this match is a do-or-die clash for both England and South Africa as they are coming off with defeats in the last matches against lower-ranked teams like Afghanistan and the Netherlands.

Here’s a look at South Africa's playing XI for the match against England:

Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi.

Here’s a look at England's playing XI for the ongoing clash against the Proteas:

Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (C&WK), David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, and Reece Topley.

Speaking of the action of the match, England have won the toss and are bowling first. South Africa have lost their first wicket on the score of 5 runs in 1.1 overs. In-form wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock fell prey to Reece Topley just on the second ball of the first over after getting off the mark with a boundary.

South Africa are coming off with two wins out of the three matches they have played in the tournament so far. On the other hand, England have only one win to their name after playing three matches in the tournament.
