New Zealand’s ODI & T20I squads announced for India tour; no place for Kane Williamson

New Zealand Cricket, on Tuesday, December 23, announced ODI and T20I squads for their upcoming India tour, which consists of a three-match ODI series, starting on January 11, and a five-match T20I series, commencing on January 21.

While the actual skipper, Mitchell Santner, has been rested, all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been appointed as the stand-in captain. On the other hand, Kane Williamson, Matt Henry, Mark Chapman, and Rachin Ravindra have been unavailable or rested.

Notably, Williamson has made himself unavailable with New Zealand Cricket confirming that the former captain is unavailable due to his SA20 commitments after being signed by Durban Super Giants as a replacement player.

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Jayden Lennox has earned his maiden international call-up, and head coach Rob Walter asserted that Lennox has been on the management’s radar for some time, thanks to his recent performances for New Zealand A.

“Jayden has been an identified player of interest for some time and has some good New Zealand “A” experience under his belt. He's consistently been one of the top performers in white-ball cricket domestically for a number of seasons,” New Zealand Head Coach Rob Walter said

“Playing in the sub-continent is obviously very different to what we’re used to in New Zealand, so any opportunity we can get to expose our guys to those conditions can only be a good thing, especially prior to a T20 World Cup in the subcontinent,” he added.

The T20I squad will have Santner return as captain of the team, which includes Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra.
