Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik has expressed his desire to make a comeback to the Pakistani side. The 41-year-old has been seen giving his expert views on the Pakistani cricket team during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.
The Pakistani team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The next big challenge for the men in green is the 2024 T20 World Cup which is to be held in the West Indies and USA.
In 2025, Pakistan is also set to host the Champions Trophy tournament. The coming few years are set to be a huge challenge for the Pakistani team with loads of tournaments lined up.
Shoaib Malik wants to break Chris Gayle’s record
Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik wants to make a comeback to the Pakistani national side and play the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 41-year-old last played for Pakistan in 2021 against Bangladesh.

Speaking to the media, Shoaib Malik said “My goal is to score around 2000 runs to go past Chris Gayle to become the best player in T20 cricket. I am open to play but clarity is needed. I am not playing cricket to represent Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. I play the game because I enjoy it. There is no problem of fitness,”
Shoaib Malik was the skipper when Pakistan lost to India in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup. Two years later Malik was part of the team which won the 2009 T20 World Cup under Younis Khan. In 2021, Shoaib Malik was part of the team which reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in UAE.
The 41-year-old has played 124 T20I games scoring 2435 runs with a best of 75 which is one of his 9 T20 fifties. With the ball he has picked 28 wickets with a best of 2/7 with an economy rate of 7.1 runs per over.
