“These things start with comparisons” – Mohammed Shami about picking the best captain
However, the Amroha-born pacer went on to pick the former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni as the best skipper among those he played under.
“Look, it is a tough question. These things start with comparisons, but you will say that the most successful one (is the best captain). So, for me, it is MS Dhoni because no one has been as successful as him,” said Shami to News18.
Notably, Dhoni was one of the most successful captains in the history of world cricket; he is the only skipper to win international multi-nation tournaments like World Cups or Champions Trophy across all formats. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won the T20 World Cup 2007 followed by clinching the titles in the ODI World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013.
Dhoni hung his boots in international cricket on August 15, 2020, announcing with a post from his official Instagram handle; while announcing his retirement, he shared a Bollywood song alongside snapshots of the moments from his 16-year-long international career while.
Talking about Shami, he ended up as the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 and also became the leading wicket-taker for India in the history of the ODI World Cup.
