South African pace bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen has stated that he always tries to get a batter in his first 10 or 15 deliveries as that is when the batter tries to settle down on the surface as he comes out to bat.
Speaking in the post-match press conference after South Africa’s 17-run loss to India in the first ODI, the star all-rounder has asserted that it’s quite difficult to get the wickets of world-class batters once they are settled down.
“When you bowl to world-class players, it’s quite difficult to get them out. I always try to get a batter in his first 10 or 15 balls. That’s when they’re still getting used to the wicket,” Jansen said in the post-match press conference.
“But once they’re in, and they get on a roll, it’s very difficult to stop them. Everyone here knows how to play, that’s why you go to plan B or C,” he added.
Additionally, he heaped praise on Virat Kohli, who scored an exceptional 135-run knock off 120 balls with 11 fours and five sixes as India posted a daunting total of 349/8 in 50 overs. In response, South Africa could score only 332 runs.
“It’s nice to watch him play. Growing up watching him on TV to actually bowling to him now… it’s annoying but it’s fun at the same time. He drives well, he pulls well, cuts well, plays with his pads well. I don’t think much has changed, he’s just batting longer and longer,” he noted.
Batting at No.7, Jansen played a key role, scoring 70 runs in 39 balls with eight fours and three sixes, but that wasn't enough for the visitors.
“It’s always nice to walk in when the top five are on a roll. I’m just watching the ball and playing it as it comes. At the moment it’s working for me.” Jansen concluded.
