Other Indian bowlers should talk to Jasprit Bumrah and learn from him: Mohammed Shami

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has suggested the Indian pace attack should take lessons from the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 2.

Notably, Bumrah scalped his 12th five-wicket haul away from home in the first innings of the Leeds Test. However, other Indian bowlers failed to live up to the expectations. Shami asserted that other Indian bowlers should properly support Bumrah for India to get to winning ways.

"In bowling, other Indian bowlers should talk to Bumrah and learn from him. They should talk about planning with him and support him. If they support Bumrah, then we can easily win the match. If I talk about the first match, then I think we need to do a little work in the bowling,” Shami said on his YouTube channel.

Interestingly, India had set a target of 371 for England in the fourth innings. While Bumrah shone in the first innings, he couldn’t replicate his form in the second innings as England went on to win the game by five wickets.

"Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each in the 2nd innings, but by the time Shardul dismissed two England batters, the match was out of India’s reach,” he added.

Furthermore, Shami also stressed on the important fact of Indian fielders dropping a lot of crucial catches. As many as eight catches were dropped in the Leeds Test with Yashasvi Jaiswal being the main culprit as he dropped four important catches.

"We dropped a lot of catches, and we need to work on it because at this level you can’t drop easy catches and do misfielding because the match can slip, which eventually did as well," he concluded.

India will next take on England in the second Test of the five-match Test series at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting on Wednesday, July 2.
