Pakistan, led by Agha Salman, defeated Afghanistan by 75 runs in the T20I tri-series grand finale in Sharjah on Sunday, September 7.

Moving into the details of the game, Pakistan batted first after winning the toss, posting a respectable total of 141/8 in 20 overs. Mohammad Nawaz was the star batter, scoring 25 runs in 21 balls with two sixes. Rashid Khan was exceptional with a three-wicket haul.

In response, Afghanistan dramatically got bundled out for 66 runs in 15.5 overs, losing the game by 75 runs. Nawaz continued his brilliance with the ball as well, scalping a match-changing five-wicket haul.

On that note, let’s take a look at who said what after the grand finale.

Salman Agha, Pakistan captain

“I think it was a kind of wicket where 140 was going to be challenging. We knew it was going to be tough for them. He (Nawaz) has been outstanding with the bat, ball and in the field since his comeback. I can go to him when we are in tough situation. We will play two spinners whenever we need. We assess the conditions and playing two spinners worked for us. It was tough for us to play against their spinners. It was always about preparing for Asia Cup. I think we are doing really well as a team. We have ticked most of the boxes, we are in good shape and ready for the Asia Cup.”

Rashid Khan, Afghanistan captain

“That was the kind of total. The wicket was there to chase. We didn't play the brand of cricket we wanted to play. We lost five wickets in the powerplay. I wasn't expecting it to spin so much. It proved to be a different wicket. In T20 cricket you hardly have any time to come back. We got a chance to understand the conditions before the Asia Cup. I think we haven't played much T20 cricket in the last 8-9 months. This has helped us ahead of the Asia Cup, it will help us as a team.”
