Parthiv Patel was asked a question on his pick for the best wicketkeeper-captain and left-handed wicketkeeper-batters across eras. Speaking on the first case, choosing among Andy Flower, Kumar Sangakkara and MS Dhoni for wicketkeeping-captain, he easily picked MS Dhoni above the rest. According to Patel, Dhoni was a far better wicketkeeper and beyond comparison of these two on captaincy scales as well.

“There is no comparison. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was a far better wicketkeeper-captain than Sangakkara,” Parthiv said while peaking on ‘The Great Indian Cricket Show’ on Doordarshan.

“Because I played with Sangakkara in Deccan Chargers when he was the keeper-captain. It's not that he was bad. There's no disrespect, but Dhoni as a captain wicketkeeper was above everyone else,” he added.

When he was asked about the best left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman with the choice of Adam Gilchrist, Kumar Sangakkara and Rishabh Pant, he picked the name of the Australian legend, Adam Gilchrist. He also mentioned that he thinks Pant is a work in progress in the white-ball cricket currently.

“Adam Gilchrist. Obviously, Sangakkara was a different player - style, grace. But he didn't play his entire career as a wicket-keeper batsman. Sometimes as a batsman, sometimes as a wicket-keeper,” Parthiv said.

“Rishabh Pant, I think, is still a work-in-progress as far as white-ball cricket is concerned. But I think Adam Gilchrist is the complete package in terms of white-ball and Test cricket,” he added.

Speaking about Pathiv's record at the International stage, he made his Test debut at the raw age of 17 for India against England at Trent Bridge in 2002, making him the youngest wicketkeeper in Test history. He scored more than 1,700 runs in all forms during his international career, which included 25 Test matches, 38 ODIs, and two T20Is.
