In an interesting revelation, the Australian captain Pat Cummins and the explosive opening batter Travis Head have rejected an AUD 10 million annual deal to quit the Australian national team and play overseas T20 leagues full-time.

According to the reports published in the Australian media, the two Australian stalwarts were offered a big deal from an IPL franchise group, but the duo politely rejected the offer to remain committed to their national team.

However, both players’ management decided not to comment on the development. While Cummins earned INR 18 crore playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Head has the earning of INR 14 crore in the IPL 2025 season for the same franchise.

Furthermore, the report also discussed that there are a lot of discussions among Cricket Australia, the state associations, and the players' union to privatise Australia’s domestic T20 premier competition, Big Bash League (BBL).

The deals offered to Cummins and Head are being used as an example of the changing landscape of international cricket and the need to bring in private investment into the BBL. The investments would lead to an increase in players' salaries and also link the T20 league into a growing global network of franchise owners.

For the unversed, earlier in 2023, England star pacer Jofra Archer was also offered a USD 7.5 million deal to play for the Mumbai Indians (MI) all year round and quit international cricket, but he politely denied the offer. Earlier this year, South African keeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen announced a sudden retirement from international cricket to ply his trade in T20 leagues across the globe.

On the other hand, Pat Cummins, who is nursing an injury, is all set to miss the forthcoming ODI and T20I series against India. Moreover, he is likely to be ruled out of the first Ashes Test in Perth and might also miss the remainder of the Ashes series.
