On Wednesday, May 21, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the T20I squad for the Bangladesh series. Notably, PCB continued its recent trend of investing in emerging players as stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been left out.
It’s important to note that both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan haven’t featured in a T20I since December 2024. Moreover, the board clearly stated that players' performances largely influenced the squad selection in the ongoing PSL season, which concludes on 25 May.
This series will also be the first assignment for newly appointed head coach Mike Hesson. All three matches will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. However, the final schedule isn’t out yet.
Originally scheduled as a five-match series, Bangladesh's tour has now been shortened to three games due to undisclosed reasons. Salman Ali Agha continues as captain of the squad while leg-spinner Shadab Khan will act as his deputy.
Furthermore, Pakistan will see the return of explosive batter Saim Ayub, who is making a comeback after his ankle fracture sustained in the second Test against South Africa in February 2025. Notably, he marked his comeback to competitive cricket in the ongoing PSL season.
On the other hand, the 29-year-old batter Sahibzada Farhan is also included in the squad, courtesy of his impressive performances in the PSL. Interestingly, he is back in the T20I set-up after a long time since 2018. Speaking about his PSL 2025 numbers, he accumulated 394 runs from 10 innings at a strike rate of 154.50, leading the run-scoring charts in the season.
