Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson came up with a lot of revelations in a recent interview. Sanju mentioned and acknowledged that Rohit Sharma showed confidence in the former’s batting skills. Notably, Sanju Samson was not picked for the Indian squad for the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia.

Apart from this, Sanju Samson also spoke about the support he received from the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma; Samson also said that the latter also lauded his batting skills in the Indian Premier League. Interestingly, there have been a couple of matches in the Indian Premier League, in which the Rajasthan skipper performed brilliantly against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians.

"Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me." - Sanju Samson

“Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me and talked. He told me ‘Hey Sanju, wassup. You performed well in the IPL but hit too many sixes against Mumbai Indians. You bat really well. I had great support from him,” said Sanju Samson on Dhanya Varma’s YouTube Channel.

Coming back to Sanju Samson being overlooked from India’s T20I squad for the T20I series against Australia, the same didn’t go down well with the veteran Indian parliamentarian from Kerala and renowned scholar, Dr Shashi Tharoor. He also came up with a tweet questioning the intent behind ignoring talented players like Sanju Samson and star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

“This is truly inexplicable. Sanju Samson should have not just been selected, he should have led the side in the absence of all the seniors. His captaincy experience with Kerala and Rajasthan Royals is more current than SKY’s. Our selectors need to explain themselves to the cricket-loving public. And why no Yuzvendra Chahal either?” wrote Dr Shashi Tharoor on X (formerly Twitter).
