The billions of dreams were shattered on the night of 19th November in Ahmedabad when India lost to Australia by 6 wickets in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. The Indian players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli were seen in tears and broken down into the emotions after the gut-wrenching defeat against Australia in the final.
Meanwhile, the star Indian pacer and leading wicket-taker of the tournament, Mohammed Shami came up with an emotional post after the conclusion of the final match in Ahmedabad. He shared a photograph in which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hugging and consoling him after India’s heartbreaking defeat.
The 33-year-old pacer thanked the Prime Minister of India for visiting the Indian dressing room and raising the spirit of Indian players following an unexpected outing in the summit clash of the tournament.
“Unfortunately, yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM Narendra Modi for especially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!” wrote Shami in his X-post (formerly Twitter) after the 6-wicket loss against Australia.

Speaking of the action of the match between India and Australia, the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and asked Rohit Sharma’s men to bat first; batting first, India could post an average total of 240 runs, losing all wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored 47 runs off 31 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul also played the crucial knocks of 54 and 66 runs, respectively.
While chasing the target, the Australians fumbled in the beginning after losing 3 wickets at the score of 47 runs but, the partnership of 192 runs for the fourth wicket between Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head helped Australia to easily chase down the target in 43 overs, scoring 241 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
Travis Head was adjudged ‘Player of the Match award for his excellent batting performance and match-defining knock of 137 runs in Australia’s favour.
